And more…

AJJ (USA) (fka Andrew Jackson Jihad, USA)

Phoenix, Arizona garbage pop veterans AJJ (Formerly Andrew Jackson Jihad) return to Australia this September, armed with their unique collection of scuzzy folk punk screeds. Since touring Australia with The Smith Street Band in 2015 they’ve released their sixth album “The Bible 2”.
Wil Wagner recently said “Sean might be my favourite living lyricist and we’re all lucky to have his songs in our lives. His songs get better and more polished every album but still maintain all the weird beautiful qualities that made me fall in love ten years ago”.

Paddy McHugh

Paddy McHugh (Brisbo)

Once a key member of Sydney City Trash, Paddy has been forging a solo career since moving to Brisbane. His support spots range from Sinead O’Connor to Frenzal Rhomb, and his recent music throws back to his Tamworth roots, as pure and honest alt-country.

 This Is A Robbery (TAS)

This Is A Robbery (Hobo)

From the rotting corpses of ASKING FOR IT and THE ANOREXIC OLSEN TWIN rises THIS IS A ROBBERY. Internationally revered songwriter Chris Burrows is back from the dead with a brand new assemblage of delinquents, gutter rock and anarcho psychosis.

The Dead Maggies (hobo)

The Dead Maggies (hobo)

From folk clubs of Scotland, to punk warehouses of Indonesia, and the Australian festival circuit (Falls, Spiegeltent, Port Fairy, National Folk Festival). The Dead Maggies (Hobart) have been spreading their tales of Van Dieman’s Land’s dark and oppressive history, in the form of lively folkpunk music.

The Berkeley Hunts (Melbo)

Thanks to a lack of recordings and a lot of good friends, The Berkeley Hunts have become a band you go see simply out of everyone telling you to do so. If one of your friends have seen them, they have told you about it. Call it word of mouth, or maybe they are that ‘buzz band’ that everyone says you need to catch. Frantic double bass, tight drums and guitar, and vocals that are honest and delivered at a pace that both compliments and contradicts the darker content of their songs, and the fun they have whilst playing them.

Fox 'N' Firkin (QLD)

Fox ‘N’ Firkin (Brisbo)

If you want to jig til ya mosh to some celt-punk fun. You’ll be here for Fox N Firkin. The Brisbane band formed in 2012, and released a ripping album ‘No Vacancy’ through Folk Til Ya Punk Records in April 2016. This saw them score Triple J airplay, number #5 on 4ZZZ Radio’s Hot 100 and # 9 on London Celtic Punks album of the year list.

Hanny J (Clowns – Melbo)

Referring to her song writing as “necessary self-expression”, Hanny J is a singer and guitarist from Brisbane, QLD who writes from the heart; sharing stories from her own perspective as well as others. Influenced by diverse and unique musicians such as Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), The Stooges and power pop legends The Nerves, Hanny J rips your heart out by delivering bare bones honesty lyrics over melodic and catchy riffs.

Hanny has recently moved to Melbourne and has been touring incessantly as bassist of Clowns, but has found time to slot in a solo gig at Hobofopo2017

Joshua Seymour (VIC)

Joshua Seymour (VIC)

Joshua Seymour is a storyteller, an interpreter, and someone who can hold a captive audience in any situation. Having spent the last few years as co-songwriter in Melbourne based alt-country band, Cherrywood, Josh has come out swinging with a fantastic set of his own songs.

His debut L.P Rope Tied Hope, recorded in Argyle, Texas, see’s him put his own Australian spin on Americana. Drawing from his own personal experiences, sometimes hilarious, often poignant fictional accounts, he brings an honesty and frankness to his songs.

The Lawless Quartet (Hobo)

The Lawless Quartet are what happens when metalheads play gypsy-jazz. It’s loose and tight. Wild and technical. A groove and a mosh.

They were popular five years ago, but have now faded into semi-obscurity. And they have all put on weight.

Catch this rare gig, an opportunity to see a band that people used to get excited about.

Wilson and the Castaways (Newcastobo)

Wilson and the Castaways (Newcastobo) are a 5 piece, newcastle-based band. Featuring euphonium and harmonica mixed in with anarcho acoustic punk songs.
A little bit of politics, a whole lot of nihilism all served with a side of anarchy!

Operation Ibis (Sydo)

Operation Ibis (Sydo)

The least folkpunk band this year is Operation Ibis, they’re ska punk, but we like them, they hang out with folkpunks all the times, so they’re basically part of the crew.

Inner west birds nest,
Palm trees fit best,
Trash turkeys never rest.
Wings spread flying high,
Punk reggae till they die.

The Stragglers (VIC)

The Stragglers (Melbo/Hobo)

Ratbag bluegrass and boozy folk tunes played by three miserable mates coming together to share a laugh and a beer, because music is cheaper than therapy.

These ratbags are Samara Cullen, Teresa Dixon (The Little Sisters) and Joshua Seymour (Cherrywood), and will be joined Saturday night at the Homestead by a handful of local legends to form the Stragglers Supergroup.

Quinton Trembath (NSW)

Quinton Trembath (NSW)

Despite his shocking memory, Quinton Trembath fills his songs with the small details of days, nights and friends worth celebrating. Probably a little too wordy and sometimes sung a bit too fast, Quinton’s punk influenced acoustic guitar playing is occasionally flanked by double bass and fiddle playing friends.

Hairyman (TAS)

Hairyman (TAS)

Hairyman, is a hairy man from the depths of the forests of far south Tasmania.
“Some call me a singing poet, some call me a balladeer, some see me as convict punk, some as redgum revived. Stuffed if I know, I love to write about stuff from convicts to whaling, politics to love, and shipwrecks to war…and get a greater pleasure sharing my words to others by acappella. I have always loved stories; I am not good with a brush but with my voice, I can paint a picture for all to see.”
Recording soon, for a release next year.

Zena Mohamad (Squid Fishing – Hobo)

All The Best (TAS)

All The Best (TAS)

All The Best are a Slop/Folk/Punk band from Tasmania.  Former teen-heartthrobs for whom time has not been kind to, dabblers in punk and hardcore bands for years, singing short songs about drinking and other stuff. They played a bit as a duo, then they went quiet, and now they’re back as a four piece.

BrodyGreg (Launo)

BrodyGreg (Launo)

BrodyGreg is an Unemployed Launcestonian Singer Songwritery Solo Acoustic Folkish Punk ™. Sad and shouty.

A big believer in encouraging a DIY scene in Launceston and Tasmania in general, he also started the Pay What You Want digital label Productive Pursuit Records in early 2016, as well as hosting house shows when he’s not living with his Nan. He spends most of his time singing yelly/wimpy songs about having friends and not wanting a real job.

A-Rock Newman (Sydo)

Does not play well with others! Forced to go it alone for 5 years- due to his terrible personality- A-rock has been traipsing around the country with an acoustic slung over his sizable shoulders signing his tunes about love, loss, surfing and Godzilla. Melodic and passionate and with a crooners voice that brings the feels he’s played with the likes of The Specials, The Hard Ons, Frenzal Rhomb, Leadfinger and the Screaming Jets everywhere from Denpasar to Surry Hills. People mostly like it!

Jonno Read (Sydo)

Sydney based Singer/Songwriter, Jonno Read has played in many punk/grunge/metal bands over the years but has always been more interested in the stripping the songs back to just the acoustic guitar to feel the raw emotion of the songs. Performing live is what he loves the most about being a musician so he can connect with the audience and make them feel the emotion with just an acoustic guitar & voice.
Jonno’s second 5 track EP will be released later this year and will be playing lots of shows around so be sure to head along to one and see what he does best.

Luke Holmslice (Sydo)

Jim Lynch (Sydo)

Ryan Garth & Emily Wolfe Duo (Hobo)

Emily and Ryan have been playing together in numerous formats over the past few years, most notably with local folk-rock favourites, Craicpot. As a duo they blend celtic with contemporary, traditional with original as Emily adds her majestic fiddle mastery to Ryan’s cerebral and cynical songwriting.

GT Mongrel (Hobo)

DJ Winterbone (Hobo)
