And… here is a bit of info about some of the acts. We hope you’re as excited as us;
DOOM SCROLL (USA) will bring an aggressive, melodic punk/crust wave of complex acoustic instrumentation and layers of harmonies knitted from decades of music appreciation and performance. Doom Scroll is one of six bands signed to Bottles to the Ground, the upstart label from NOFX front man Fat Mike, an imprint of the iconic punk label Fat Wreck Chords. Alongside diverse acts like ska-fusion veterans Fishbone and punk-rap poets Codefendants, Doom Scroll’s unique blend of pop, punk, folk and acoustic metal music makes it a perfect fit for the label’s eclectic flagship roster. The band has been lauded by music news outlets like Dying Scene, Rebel Noise, Punknews.org and Houston Press. Besides songs which range from politically-charged to existential in nature, Doom Scroll has leaned on its musicianship and vocal harmonies to draw in daring listeners. In just 4 years, Doom Scroll have played over 200 shows. Noteworthy festivals they’ve performed at include Riot Fest Chicago, Muddy Roots, Compost Heap, and Hellbound.
RENT STRIKE (USA). These Anarcho-folk-punkers have been playing and touring around the united states with evolving and revolving lineups since 2012. Some brilliant songwriting has been noticed by many heavyweights of the USA folkpunk scene, and led to them being the chosen support of many acts such as The Taxpayers and Apes Of The State. Their danceable and energetic performances, paired with heady and irreverent lyricism, leave a lasting mark on all who bear witness to their unique sound.
8FOOT FELIX (VIC) With 14 years of multi-genre musical mayhem under their belt, festival circuit favorites 8Foot Felix are deliciously seasoned joymongers. Carnival hip-hop mash-ups collide with balkan blues, fraying into free jazz then locking into latin lounge. In November 8Foot Felix will arrive in Tassie packing vinyl from their freshly launched second album Spacefreak.
BUSHED POETRY (QLD) are a 3 piece folk punk powerhouse hailing from Meanjin. Musically covering topics both serious and a little silly, they will surely captivate you with hard hitting instrumentals and thought provoking lyrics.
A.C SAUNDERS (VIC) is a story teller, guitar slinger and a song singer. Melodies of an angel, lyrics of a deeply disturbed individual. A.C is influenced by folk, punk, blues, country, and of course, her surroundings. If you like day dreaming, over thinking, and crying to sad songs then you will love A.C Saunders.
MEDUSAS WAKE (NSW) will take any opportunity to come to HOBOFOPO, and we can’t resist a rollicking celtic-punk six-piece. Based on Australian and Old Ireland folklore, Medusa’s Wake have been described as a love child of The Pogues and Roaring Jack.
If you’ve danced to lively shanties in the wee hours, you’d be familiar with one of our favourites WHISKEY DRAM (VIC).
From Ngunnawal, we’ve enjoyed the rocked up political folkpunk vibes of A COMMONERS REVOLT (ACT) a couple of times before and are excited to have them back.
The DOUBLE DOLE STRING BAND (VIC) have been a mainstay of Naarm old-timey tunes for a few years. They’re known for inclusive jams, calling bushdances and pickin’ tunes to the wee hours.
We’re keen to welcome more artists from over the sea, and this year it’s the BOTTOM BUNK CLUB (NZ) from the land of the long white cloud. An acoustic quartet that merges the fast paced melodies of bluegrass with the fierce social commentary and fuck you persona of punk rock. They recently supported Crywank too, which is cool.
We have returns from; The Dead Peasants, Quinton Trembath, Impeach Churchill!, The Crop Tops, Hannah Morrell, Crusty Fox and the Deadman’s Undies.
And warm welcomes to; Trauma Cats, Beth Seymour, khoy, Clover Love, Raspberry Terrapin, Scattabrain, Cassandra Hollow, Lukey Ibis and The Purgatory Three.
There is a cool article featuring videos of some of these bands over at backseatmafia, so go on and click this to check these acts out.
